I met a man I use to love the other day
after many years apart
He asked how I was doing
and if anyone yet had my heart
Yes I said, keeping my answers short
because my heart began to beat awry
Even though he deserved no such honor
My feelings I could not deny
So to his questions I thought very carefully
before I could reply
And when he finally asked do you really love him?
These words I retorted with a sigh
He may not be as tall as you, as rich or even as fair
But he never forced me or made me feel badly
when I just needed someone to hold me near
No he may not dress as well as you or be as sophisticated with his tongue
But he never tried to manipulate me and his words had never stung
And when he loves me fast or slow; either way
I'm always pleased
He never just thinks about himself and satisfies his own needs
Its because of these things that I love him
But do you know the main reason why
In all the time we've been together
He never made me cry
